Amboss tests so many random facts that usually do not show up on the shelf exams. Imo, UW is just a better tool overall, for both shelf prep and Step 2. There's a reason why people stick to UW over Amboss.

Don't neglect the shelf studying Obviously, but it happens. Get through the UWorld, and do your Anki 2 or more times before the shelf. Use your lunch breaks, down time, etc. to get it done. My uworld average is 48% for the surgery questions. I find there are more tricks and distractions than I’m used to. 48% puts me at a low percentile, like 4-6th percentile. I need 10th (65% ish correct) on the shelf to pass. I have no way to tell if I’m going to pass or not.

I have very limited background in science and test taking, and am continuing to experiment with ways of improving my academic performance. I just barely passed preclinicals, which was in an accelerated program (had to retake a couple of exams) and just barely passed the surgery shelf (passing is 5th percentile at my school).
